Vrboska brings its rich fishing and maritime heritage to life through the Traditional Festival Varbovaški Repiket, taking place on 16 July. Visitors can look forward to a day filled with authentic island customs, workshops, music, and the flavours of the Mediterranean.
From the morning hours at the Fishermen’s Museum, you can take part in a T-shirt dyeing workshop using pine bark, a traditional technique once used to colour fishing nets. The evening programme will feature demonstrations of net mending skills, traditional dances and klapa singing performed by KUD Jelsa, as well as a unique guided tour of the photography exhibition “Mark of Time – Let’s Go Sardine Fishing”, accompanied by the symbolic lighting of a traditional lantern fuelled by pine splinters (svićalo) near the islet of Škojić.
The atmosphere will be further enriched by the Dance of Sails presented by Udruga Lantina, while throughout the event visitors can enjoy local gastronomic specialties and freshly grilled sardines, an enduring symbol of Dalmatian fishing heritage.
Come and experience the spirit of old Vrboska, the scents of the sea, the sounds of klapa singing, and the stories that have shaped the life of our village for generations.
